Extending life of a 16 Amp Legrand switch

by Repairability Score Team, Oct. 18, 2024, 8:18 a.m.

16 Amp switched like the one below are expensive, costing more than 200 Rs.

After a few years, the spring action of ON/OFF position doesn't work properly it's really wasteful to replace the entire switch. Below are a few steips to extend the life of the switch (not perfectly fix it)

1. Pop open the white switch cover. Then use a screwdriver to open the clips of the plastic moving mechanism inside. Inside the switch will look like below.

2. Inside you will see a small copper arm like below:

Clean all the contacts.

3. Now look at the plastic moving mechanism, there will bea spring with a small rubber end.

The problem is that the rubber wears off with use and the spring action is loose. Put a small ball of paper in the hole and then re-insert the spring in it. This will make the tension a little more.

4. Re-assemble all the parts.

Please note, this is a not a perfect fix, but should extend the life of the switch for some time. It might take you a few tries to assemble it back correctly. Good luck.
